In what could be a boon for overseas Filipino workers, the Philippines has thrown its support behind the International Labor Organization’s adoption of a protocol and recommendation against forced labor.

In a news release on Monday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the Philippines cast an affirmative vote for the ILO protocol and recommendation on the issue.

“The Philippine government is deeply concerned with forced or compulsory labor, so that we have ratified relevant UN and ILO Conventions and adopted domestic measures aimed at effectively addressing the problem,” DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said after the Philippines cast an affirmative vote during a plenary vote. READ MORE…
