Laws governing the entry and exit of expat workers in Qatar are to be revised by the end of 2015 following the completion of a review by the government this week.

In a statement issued to media on Monday, the Qatari government also pledged to clamp down on “dishonest recruitment practices” in the home countries of Qatar’s thousands of expat workers.

A committee of Qatar’s Advisory Council completed its review of draft new sponsorship laws for the country on Monday.

The traditional ‘kafala’ sponsorship system in place at present has long been criticised by human rights groups and trade unions as it places tough restrictions on migrant workers.
