THE government has unveiled its approved list of qualified labour recruitment agencies, which are permitted to work in the country.

Speaking with reporters in Dar es Salaam, on Monday, the Communications Officer in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Ridhiwan Wema, said that the move is aimed at improving working conditions for staff and to control the agencies that are notoriously violating labour laws.

“Until the 30th of August this year, we received about 89 applications in which only 51 met the required criteria and they were offered licences to operate for a year,” he said.

Mr Wema said that the remaining 38 companies were not offered licences to operate due to a number of reasons including meeting the necessary criteria and missing necessary documents.

He further said that job seekers should be careful when using the agencies especially those who are denied registration as some unfaithful ones may still be operating, something which is illegal.
