The government has decided to delay the recruitment of foreign labour, including those from Bangladesh.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Ahmad Hamidi after attending a function at Muara Tuang Army Camp here today (Feb 19).
“The government has decided to delay recruiting all foreign workers including Bangladeshis.
“All employers are to recruit local workers following this announcement. Furthermore, the government will also review the two-tier levy programme,” he said.
Zahid pointed out that the new policy was to make sure that no foreign workers would be brought to Malaysia while foreign workers who were without official papers or had overstayed their welcome would be nabbed and deported.
He said the government would see to it that foreign workers who remained in the country without the necessary documents would not be used as labour again in Malaysia.
