The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) suspended a recruitment agency for charging placement fees higher than what was allowed by government regulations.
POEA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac ordered the grounding of Lexus Inc. which has deployed 20 Filipino factory workers in Taiwan.
The workers filed separate complaints of against the recruitment agency for overcharging, Cacdac said..
He said Lexus charged each of the workers placement fees ranging from P90,000 to P130,000.
The workers signed contracts with a monthly salary of NT$18,000 to NT$19,000 or equivalent to about P28,000. The agency failed to issue receipts for their payment, the complainants said.
Cacdac said a recruitment agency is authorized to collect from its hired workers an amount equivalent to one month salary, exclusive of documentation and processing costs.
