FOLLOWING successful negotiations this week, Israel has agreed to reduce the recruitment fees for Filipino caregivers by at least 85 percent.

Speaking at the BusinessMirror’s Coffee Club Forum, Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Rafael Harpaz disclosed their position to lower the recruitment fees to just $800 from the existing range of $8,000 to $12,000 in their recently concluded talks with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

“But they [caregiver applicants] would have to shoulder their plane fare [to Israel],” Harpaz clarified.

Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said Filipino caregivers would have to pay an average of US$1,200 or around P63,600 (US$1=P53) under Israel’s proposed fees.
