Recognizing that labour mobility is important for the private sector and that there is a need to involve it at national and international levels, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) are working together to enhance migration as a force for development.

Well-managed labour mobility that is safe and efficient is essential in today’s global labour market for both employers and migrants. A memorandum of understanding was exchanged  between IOM and FICCI today  (March 24) in Geneva.

IOM and FICCI are forging a path to reduce exploitative recruitment practices in international labour migration that harm workers and employers.

The migration of workers to other countries is crucial to the economies of both India and the host countries. A major area of concern is unscrupulous and unethical recruitment intermediaries who prey on poorly informed migrants and charge extortionate fees in order to secure jobs overseas.
